Hannah Wien is a Jeff Nominated lighting designer based in Chicago, IL focused on discovering new, old, and exciting ways lights can exist in the context of a space.

I fell in love with collaboration from a young age and it hasn’t ever stopped, it’s just taken different forms. As an artist, I am enamored with working together to create the best of something. A firm believer that many minds working together is always better than one, I want to hear about concepts that would have never come up in my mind, and figuring out how to make that concept come to life.

As a designer I love saturation and angles. I like telling a story through color and from where the light is coming from. When creating a design, it’s always a starting point to imagine the lights in the show are their own character, and therefore also undergo their own “character arc”. How do the lights change from the beginning of a show to the end? Why? How can that influence and interact with the other elements on stage? The lights tell a story too, and I am very interested in the story being told.
